Seeking Qualified Local Women & Non-Binary Artists

We invite qualifications from local artists to design a T-shirt, two race medals, and ribbon artwork for SHE RUNS Grand Rapids! An upcoming race celebrating women in sports, diversity, safety and belonging. This opportunity includes a $2,000 stipend for design work in addition to ArtPrize submission fees. 

Project Overview

We believe movement can change your life! Our race prioritizes Women’s voices and stories, representation, safety, and belonging for all who identify as women. We seek artwork that embodies these values and amplifies underrepresented voices. The final design should inspire themes of empowerment, celebration, and community. 

Qualifications Sought:

  • Experience in creating visual artwork (graphic design, illustration, or related fields)
  • A portfolio demonstrating inclusive, community-focused themes
  • Ability to develop a T-shirt design, two race medals, and ribbon artwork
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Women, non-binary, or female-identifying Artists
  • Local residency preferred

Budget & Compensation:

  • $2,000 total stipend for Artwork 
  • Additional  ArtPrize submission fee 
  • Exposure through ArtPrize and community engagement opportunities
  • Contribution to an impactful community event

Submission Requirements:

Interested artists must submit:

  • Name, email and phone number, Social Media handles, and preferred method of contact. 
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant work. (Just a few is great!)
  • A statement outlining their artistic background and approach to themes of diversity, equity, inclusion, safety, and belonging; or how you aspire to. 
  • A resume or CV highlighting relevant experience (preferred, not required)

Design Specifications: 

  • Medals:
    • Half medal — 3.0 diameter
    • 5k/10k medal — 2.5 diameter
  • Ribbon: 
    • 1.5″ x 34″  

Selection Criteria:

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

  • Artistic quality and creativity
  • Alignment with event themes
  • Demonstrated ability to complete the project within the timeframe

Intellectual Property & Copyright:

Artists should review visual arts copyright policies per the U.S. Copyright Office: https://www.copyright.gov/engage/visual-artists/. The selected artist retains authorship while granting event organizers rights to reproduce and use the designs in connection with this event.

Full Project Timeline:

  • Artist Call Close 3/31
  • In review 4/1 – 4/8
  • Artist Announced 4/9 
  • Artwork will be due to the Committee for review May 16
  • Review and decide May 19th – 30th
  • Final Products- June 2nd
